Lawrence Eusden was the son of Dr. Eusden, rector of Spotsworth in Yorkshire. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. His attainments as a scholar were considerable, and he obtained the patronage of Halifax by translating into Latin verse the latter's poem on the Battle of the Boyne. The Duke of Newcastle made him Laureate in 1718 in return for an Epithalamium which he wrote on the marriage of the Duke with Lady Henrietta Godolphin. He died in 1730.
