1780 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Edmund Burke

T. S., "Epigram" London Courant (4 March 1780).

The Hercules of eloquence,
Say, Burke! shall you be able
To close the labour you commence,
And cleanse the Augean stable?

While you, to clear Corruption's sink,
So resolutely delve,
Your single toil we justly think
Superior to his twelve.
