1798 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Thomas James Mathias

Anonymous, "To the anonymous Authours of The Pursuits of Literature" St. James's Chronicle (25 January 1798).

Think not, howe'er she boast her motley rhymes,
Thy shapeless Muse shall last to after times.

She feed each baser passion of the heart;
Indignant Virtue yet shall mark thy shame,
And Justice blot thee from the rolls of Fame.
