BENTLEY. It is rather a reproach to the learning of the age, that this critic should be known more by a satirical expresson of Pope's, than by the merit of his writings: his "Desperate Hook" did "slash" away some times at an undefensible rate, but he has in some remarks uncommon acuteness.
