LITTLETON. This nobleman is famous for his History of King Henry the Second, in the composition of which he employed many years and great attention, and has executed it in a most able manner. His Dialogues of the dead are spirited and entertaining; and his poems elegant and pleasing. His Monody on the death of lady Littleton is one of the finest elegies in our language; and as pathetic as can well be conceived.
