1772 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. William Mason

MASON. A correct and pleasing poet, who has gained much reputation in this age, and would have deserved some in any age. His Elfrida and Musaeus are his best works. He has been promoted advantageously in the church by his patron lord Holdernesse, a nobleman, whose taste and liberality would in the same station have rivalled Mecaenas.
