1822 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Lord Chesterfield

Anonymous, "Epigram on Lord Chesterfield and his Son" The Literary Gazette (20 July 1822) 458.

Vile Stanhope (daemons blush to tell)
In twice ten thousand places
Had taught his Son the way to ****
Escorted by the Graces.

But little did th' unduteous lad
Concern himself about them;
For, mean, degenerate, basely bad,
He sneaked to **** without them.
