1807 ca. ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Sir James Bland Burges

George Hardinge, "On the Exodiad" 1807 ca.; Hardinge, Miscellaneous Works (1818) 2:389.

When Beaumont's judgment guided Fletcher's wit,
Each was by turns the Hero of the Pit:

The other claim'd the passions and the heart.
But no divided claim the conflict urges,
In Sternhold, Hopkins, Cumberland, and Burges.
