Edmund Waller

Daniel Hayes, in "Immortality of the Muses" Town and Country Magazine 1 (1769) 272.

Enchanting damsels, and enchanted swains,
With rapture catch soft Waller's strains;
Smooth as the murmurs of descending rills,
Thro' ev'ry nerve the melting joy distils,
'Till the coy virgin chaf't to keen desire,
Transported sinks in love's consuming fire.
