1764 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Sir Aston Cokayne

David Erskine Baker, in Companion to the Play-House (1764) 2:Sig. G4v.

Sir Aston is universally acknowledged to have been a great Lover of the polite Arts, and by some is esteemed a considerable Poet. In his private Transactions he was greatly deficient in Point of Oeconomy, by which Means, together with his Losses during the Civil Wars, he was obliged to dispose of all his Patrimony during his Life-Time.
