1817 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Robert Southey

R. F., "Epigram on Mr. Robert Southey's Letter to W. Smith, Esq. M.P." Monthly Repository of Theology and General Literature 12 (June 1817) 371.

Thus the veer'd Laureate of our time,
So juicy ripe for royal rhyme,
His lofty praise rehearses;
"What's the good friend of Liberty,
The Patriot, Senator, to me?
Great I have written verses!"
Kidderminster, May 19th, 1817.
