1812 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. Henry More

Robert Southey to Thomas Southey, 24 December 1812; Selections from the Letters, ed. Warter (1856) 2:312.

I believe Henry More's poems were never printed with his works. He was a most very odd fellow; the veriest believer in all ghosts, goblins, and vampires! but I have not done full justice to him as a poet; strange, and sometimes unreadably uncouth as he is, there are lines and passages of the highest feeling, and most exquisite beauty.
