1775 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. Thomas Twining

Frances Burney, 1775; The Early Diary of Frances Burney (1889) 2:6.

We had a visit from her [Miss Davies], her mother, and sister last week; and we had here to meet her Mr. Twining, a Clergyman, who is come to town for a few weeks from his parsonage near Colchester. He is a man of learning, very fond of music, and a good performer on the harpsichord and violin. He commenced a correspondence with my father upon the publication of his German Tour, which they have kept up with great spirit ever since; for Mr. Twining, besides being very deep in musical knowledge, is a man of great humour and drollery.
