1830 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Robert Southey

And there was one in a wandering path
That journeyed about the heaven;
At times with a fervor of fire and wrath,
Like the bolt of the lightning driven;
At times with a dull and heavy pace,
As the moon comes through a fog;
At times with a fire of brilliant grace,
And then, as if mist might clog
And weigh on the lids of his burning eye—
So wandered that star both low and high.
