ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Lines, in imitation of Milton's Allegro and Penseroso.

City Gazette and Daily Advertiser (23 April 1798).

Three unsigned couplets appearing in a Charleston, South Carolina newspaper.

Lovely maid! inspire my muse,
And thy sweetness now diffuse,
And thy beauty in each line,
Reflective, with it's light divine,
Gently shed through all my strains,
As when the orient beam regain.
